Cubism and Futurism
Cubism is a pre-1914 painting style developed by Picasso and Braque. If Renaissance artists wanted to disguise the fact that a canvas is flat, the Cubists accepted flatness as what made painting different from other arts. They found new ways of relating 3D space to a flat surface. Simultaneously, the Italian Futurists wanted to portray the dynamism of modern life.
